Redesign of VEGA ACU Connector
for Additive Manufacturing
The project was developed during a team competition for the course "Additive Manufacturing for Space and Aerospace Applications" at Politecnico of Milan.

Aim of the project was to redesign for additive manufacturing the VEGA launcher support connector for the Adaptateur of Change Utile (ACU).
The original component was realized by sheet metal manufacturing.

Optimized part was modified to reduce the support needed.

Thermal analysis, displacement analysis and residual stress anlysis were performed.

A self-supporting structure was obtained and a reduction of mass of 56.5 % was achieved. The project won the competiton and the result was recognised as the best among all the competing teams.
